Friends School Dandora and Starlight Academy were crowned winners of the Johanna Omollo Foundation inter schools soccer tournament in the boys and girls categories respectively at City Stadium, Nairobi.
The one day tournament attracted a total of 7 schools drawn from Embakasi North Constituency, Nairobi.
Friends School Dandora pipped Ushirika secondary school 5-4 via post match penalties after the match ended 1-1 in regular time to lift the boys title while Starlight Academy proved to be a force to reckon with after seeing off Kinyago Secondary school via post match kicks.
The two teams had played to a barren draw in regular time. The Tournament organised by Harambee Stars midfielder Johanna Omollo who plies his trade with Turkish club BB Erzurumspor seeks to give the youth a sporting chance as well offer them an alternative from the social vices.

Ushirika Secondary School’s students Lavender Katsira and Patricia Katunge concurred that the tournament was vital in aiding their morals since it helped them avoid the social ills.
‘’It gives girls a chance to avoid getting involved in other stuff that can harm them’’, remarked Lavender with Patricia adding ‘’ if you are given an ability you should create time for it to be discoverable’’
Starlight senior Academy’s Sofia Mulangi capped the role of the tournament delighting in the opportunity that came with being involved it.

‘’The tournament has given us exposure and those who played could be selected to form a new team, Dandora Stalets ‘’ Sofia said quipping further ‘’ By playing in this tournament it keeps girls busy and this helps in bringing down the number of early pregnancies and crime as well as consumption of drugs,this is important because we will be able to to advance in life devoid of the social ills’’, Sofia intimated.
The one day tournament was also used as a platform to select female players who will form Dandora Starlets, a female football club that will feature in league matches.
‘’We are trying to form a team Dandora Starlets and also come up with more age groups sides.In a week’s time we will have a training schedule for the newly formed side’’, said Victor Akumu Public Relations official from the Johanna Omolo Foundation.
