Japanese Gov’t Urged to Support Reconstruction of Northern Uganda

The Member of Parliament for Pece-Laroo division [Gulu East] Hon. Rev Father Charles Onen has appealed to the Japan International Cooperation Agency[JICA] for more support towards reconstruction of Northern Uganda

‘’Gulu is known for unskilled youths, the ones commonly known as ‘’Aguu’’. Their Education was interrupted by the war and we need a vocational Institute to be built in Gulu City for them.’’ said Father Onen

The MP was Speaking on Monday in a meeting of JICA officials and other local leaders and technocrats who were visiting sites where JICA had put up a development projects

On his part, Gulu City Mayor Alfred Okwonga also applauded JICA support towards infrastructural development in Northern Uganda.

Professor Openjuru Ladaah, the Vice Chancellor Gulu University said they are planning to set up more faculties like Engineering and need support in technical guidance and trainings

JICA is involved in financing major Infrastructure Projects in the Country that include; building of the new bridge on the Nile, upgrading Atiak Nimule Road, Gulu City Roads rehabilitations, Kampala Flyover construction, among others

On The 30th November 2021, Hon Onen moved a motion of the resolution of Parliament to applaud the development assistance and Cooperation of JICA and other development agencies in Uganda, specifically support for the recovery of the Northern Uganda Region.
