It’s a shame Ghana will not qualify for 2025 AFCON – Rev Osei Kofi
Black StarsGhana and Asante Kotoko legend Rev. Osei Kofi has expressed his disappointment over the Black Stars’ struggles to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), calling it a “shame.”Currently, the senior national team is in third place in Group F, having secured only two points from four matches.Black Stars’ campaign began with a surprising 1-0 defeat to Angola at Baba Yara Stadium, followed by a 1-1 draw against Niger. In a doubleheader against Sudan, the Black Stars were held to a scoreless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium in the first leg, only to suffer a 2-0 defeat in the return leg in Libya. These disappointing results mean Ghana could miss out on the AFCON tournament for the first time in 20 years.Reflecting on the glory days of Ghanaian football, the two-time AFCON winner voiced his concern about the current state of the sport under its administration.”During our peak, we were referred to as the Brazilians of African football. Now, having failed to qualify for the African Cup of Nations in Morocco, weve experienced a decline,” Osei Kofi told Graphic Sports.”However, I believe this will serve as an important lesson for us to improve before the next qualifiers. It’s truly a shame,” he concluded.Looking ahead, the Black Stars will regroup for their final matches against Angola in Luanda and Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium. For Ghana to qualify for the tournament, they will need to secure victories over Angola and Niger while relying on Sudan, currently in second place with 7 points, to lose both of their matches against Niger and Angola.
