Itâs possible to win U20 AFCON without winning WAFU B Championship â Kurt Okraku to Black Satellites
The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has encouraged the Black Satellites to remain confident and focused as they aim for victory at the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite falling short in the 2024 WAFU B U20 Championship final.Ghanas U20 team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in last months final, but their runner-up finish was enough to secure qualification for the upcoming U20 AFCON.The U20 AFCON will double as the qualifying tournament for next years FIFA U20 World Cup, which will be held in Chile. We are runners-up, but we have shown quality in this tournament. Coach and the entire technical team, this is the first phase of our journey. The second phase is the AFCON, Okraku said. We’ve seen teams win the WAFU and not win the AFCON. We’ve seen teams win the WAFU and win the AFCON.We’ve seen teams play as runners-up at the WAFU and still win the AFCON. We’ve seen teams place second at the WAFU and still win the AFCON.So, we are finished with the first phase. The second phase is for all of us, as a family, to think about how we’re going to prepare this team. How we’re going to be competitive, and how we will participate in the AFCON and make it to the World Cup.
