International Persons with Disability Empowerment Conference opens in Accra Thursday
Over 300 people with disabilities (PWDs), experts, donors, agencies, and other stakeholders from various sectors are expected to participate in a two-day conference to discuss and address challenges faced by PWDs and develop inclusive solutions.
The two-day conference, dubbed, “INPEWDEC 2024”, would be held in Accra on Thursday and Friday under the theme, “Empowering Persons with Disabilities: Promoting inclusivity, equity, and sustainable development. “
It would focus on enhancing food security, nutrition, and the overall empowerment for persons with disabilities in Ghana and neighbouring countries.
The two-day conference is being organised by S-DIA LBG, in collaboration with Inclusion Ghana, SWEB Foundation, and the Sedofa Consultancy (TSC), with sponsorship from the World Food Programme (WFP) in Accra.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the World Food Programme (WFP) in Accra and copied The Ghanaian Times over the weekend to announce its partnership with D-DIA Advocacy LBG for the organisation of the two-day conference.
“The World Food Programme (WFP) in Accra, Ghana, has announced its sponsorship to S-DIA Advocacy LBG for the organisation of the International Persons with Disability Empowerment Conference (INPEWDEC 2024)”, the statement read.
“This inaugural conference, organised by S-DIA Advocacy LBG in collaboration with Inclusion Ghana, SWEB Foundation and the Sedofa Consultancy (TSC), is scheduled for November 28 and November 29, 2024 in Accra”, the statement continued.
“The WFP’s involvement aims to equip persons with disabilities with the tools and skills needed to access nutritious foods, build livelihoods, and thrive in inclusive communities, ensuring that no one is left behind in the fight against hunger”, it added.
The Executive Director of S-DIA Advocacy LBG, Mr Kweku Kakah, expressing his enthusiasm about the partnership between his outfit and WFP, said WFP’s aid sponsorship was a testament to the importance of collective efforts in empowering persons with disabilities.
“By addressing issues like food security and inclusivity, we are not just tackling immediate challenges but also contributing to long-term systemic changes that will enable PWDs to thrive,” he stated.
He said the conference would help find solutions that would break the barriers that often limited opportunities for people with disabilities, and also bring stakeholders from various sectors, including technology, finance, health, education, civil society, to collaborate on actionable solutions for empowering PWDs
