IGG Clears Shs 1.2Billion Payment to Kanungu Tea Farmers

The Inspector General of Government (IGG) has directed the Executive Director of National Agricultural and Advisory Services (NAADS) to pay Kanungu Tea Nursery Operators up Ugx 1.2 billion.

Deputy Inspector General of Government Mariam Wangadya made the pronouncement in a November 26th letter to the Naads Executive Director of NAADs.

The payment of the money was blocked in January 2020 by the IGG pending an investigation.

“The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the order issued to you by this office dated 3rd January 2020 halting payment to the 78 Tea Nursery Bed Operators in Kanungu District has been vacated” the letter reads in parts.

The letter was copied to the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury in the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development and the Chief Administrative Officer Kanungu District.

Government owed the Kanungu farmers this money for their supply of tea seedlings which were supplied under the NAADS program.

The Tea Nursery Operators had threatened to go to court if their money was not paid.
