There has been a huge update on the future of Kaizer Chiefs coach, Stuart Baxter following the club’s shock Nedbank Cup exit.
Chiefs saw a moment of de ja vu after being knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by TS Galaxy who are no strangers to causing upsets.
TS Galaxy caused a major upset
An Augustine Kwem goal was enough to see Galaxy beat Chiefs and inflict the same scoreline they had when they beat Amakhosi in the 2019 Nedbank Cup final. On that evening, The Soweto giants were billed as overwhelming favourites to clinch the trophy and end their trophy drought. On that occasion it was current Orlando Pirates striker Zakhele Lepasa who was on hand to break the hearts of the glamour boys with a last minute win that secured the cup.
Although he wasn’t there during that time, Stuart Baxter was pretty much the man at the forefront after Chiefs lost in the Nedbank Cup round of the 32. Unsurprisingly the club’s fans were not happy with Baxter and were more than happy to voice their discontent at the coach and the current situation at their club. Ultimately, the calls were for the veteran British mentor to be relieved of his duties at the club, and now an update has been issued on his future.
Baxter’s Chiefs future clarified
According to a source close to the Citizen, Baxter is set to stay put at Chiefs.
“The coach won’t be fired any time soon, But the deal is that this has to be the rebuilding phase and next season the chairman is expecting the trophy drought to end or heads will roll. Baxter has the best Chiefs squad in a while and a lot is expected from him – some of his contract deliverables include bringing in silverware,”. Said the source.
It looks like Chiefs will have to contend with yet another season of Baxter, barring more major setbacks between now and the end of the season.
