How the regions have voted in the 2020 presidential race so far
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, is currently leading the presidential race, according to certified results from seven regions released by the Electoral Commission (EC).
The lead is unlikely to hold for Mr. Mahama as the certified results do not include the Ashanti and Eastern regions, which are massive strongholds of Nana Akufo-Addo, the incumbent President.
Mr. Mahama currently has 1,997,450 of the votes in the certified regions while President Akufo-Addo currently has 1,500,310 votes.
President Akufo-Addo, however, beat Mr. Mahama in four of the seven regions; the Ahafo Region, Central Region and the newly-created North East and Bono regions.
The certified results are from the Bono, Ahafo, Volta, North East, Upper West, Central and Oti regions.
Mr. Mahama biggest margin of victory is in the Volta Region, as expected.
He won 506,027 more votes than Nana Akufo-Addo in the NDC stronghold.
Citi News‘ analysis of certified results from 233 constituencies has President Akufo-Addo in a substantive lead with 5,254,837 votes to Mr. Mahama’s 4,935,554.
The EC says it has so far received results from 14 out of the 16 regions.
The two remaining regions where results are still outstanding as Bono East and Northern.
