History makes Ghana overwhelming favourites for AFCON qualifier in Sudan on Tuesday

Black StarsGhana are eager to defeat Sudan in their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday to secure an early place at the tournament to be held in Cameroon next year. The Black Stars are the overwhelming favourites to win the match against the Jadian Falcons at the Blue Jawhara Stadium, in the fourth round of matches in Group C.The odds from Online Sports Betting sites are firmly in favour of the West Africans winning the match in Omdurman thanks of their perfect form in the qualifiers so far having secured maximum points nine points in the group.History is also on the side of the Ghanaians who defeated their opponents 2-0 in their previous fixture in the group just five days ago to continue to lead the group after three matches. Two goals by Black Stars captain Andre Ayew helped the home side to win the match in Cape Coast and keep on course with a perfect record in the qualifiers so far.But Ghana will play the match without the Swansea City playmaker who got injured while training with the Black Stars on Saturday ahead of todays clash.Despite the absence of Ayew several players including Mubarak Wakaso and Jeffrey Schlupp have returned to the squad giving Ghana coach Charles CK Akonnor reinvigorated hopes for the match.A victory for the Black Stars in their fourth match in the group will take them to an unassailable 12 points which will confirm their place at the 16-team tournament to be played in Cameroon.Apart from Ghanas current form, history is also on their side as matches between the Sudanese national team and its Ghanaian counterpart, have largely gone in favour of the latter. The Sudanese team has only won twice in their 12 previous meetings, one match ended in a draw and the West African have won nine times against the home side. The last match between the two teams was last Thursday, November 12, while their first match was on December 1, 1963, in the final of the third edition of the African Nations Cup, and Sudan lost 3-0.Sudan’s national team responded to Ghana in the final of the 1970 African Nations Cup in Khartoum, by winning the final with a single goal scored by Hassabo Al-Saghir.After that, the two teams’ matches stopped for 13 years, before Sudan faced the Ghanaian President’s Cup match and the Ghanaian national team won 3-1.After 18 years in February 2001 in the 2002 World Cup qualifiers Sudan won 1-0 at the Al-Merreikh Stadium and the Ghanaian team won the reverse fixture by the same score four months later. The two teams did not meet after that, until after 8 years, during which the Ghanaian team amplified its superior record over Sudan, starting from the World Cup qualifiers in South Africa, where the Black Stars beat Sudan home and away with a 2-0 scoreline in each of the two legs in 2009.In the same year, the two teams met twice again in the African Nations Cup qualifiers, and Sudan held the Black Stars in Kumasi but lost 2-0 at Al-Hilal Stadium. The two teams returned to successive games, playing two matches in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers for Brazil, in the year 2013, and the Black Stars won 4-0 at home, before beating Sudan 3-1 in Omdurman. The Ghanaian team concluded its victory over Sudan by winning 2-0 in Cape Coast last Thursday which means the chance of the Jadian Falcons winning Tuesdays match is an arduous task.
