Here’s how to connect the PS5 DualSense controller to your PC

2 min read

The PS5 DualSense sense controller is one of the best console controllers ever created, in my very humble opinion. It was also the first glimpse Sony gave us at next-gen console gaming, way ahead of the PS5 launch.

When the DualSense controller was first announced, Sony explained that the goal was “to give gamers the feeling of being transported into the game world as soon as they open the box.” Mission accomplished!

“We want gamers to feel like the controller is an extension of themselves when they’re playing; so much so that they forget that it’s even in their hands”.

Design and improvements

Sony integrated the light around the touchpad, which is better placed than the “tacked-on” light on the back of the PS4 controller. Yes, tacked-on. I said what I said.

The PS5 DualSense controller looks a bit like a Stormtrooper, doesn’t it? The share button is now called the create button and it’s packed with everything you need to improve immersion.

The addition of adaptive triggers is a huge move forward and in future games will be able to simulate the feeling of pulling back the string of a bow or giving different cars throttle pedals different characteristics.

How to connect DualSense controller to PC

Connecting the DualSense controller to a PC won’t give you haptic feedback or the adaptive trigger, and you trackpad will be rendered useless, more or less.

But if you want to connect your shiny new controller to a PC and use it a last-gen controller, here’s how.

Connecting via cable

While Sony hasn’t developed specific drivers for PCs, your PS5 DualSense controller is compatible with a PC and Android, at the risk of missing out on haptic functions.

You have two options, either with a cable or via Bluetooth. To connect your DualSense controller a PC with a cable, you’d need a USB-C that has a USB-A output.

It’s the standard cable you would use to charging the controller through the PS5. Simply plug it in and your PC should detect the DualSense. It really is that simple.

Connecting via Bluetooth

If you have built-in Bluetooth or an adapter on your PC, you’ll find that connecting via this option is similar to previous generations of controller. First, head over the Window Settings menu.

Go to “Devices” and select “Bluetooth and other Devices”, then select “Add Bluetooth or Other Device”. Your PC will search for compatible devices, so you need to hold down the Create button (the Share button on PS4.)

Hold it until your DualSense controller starts to flash, and you see the “Wireless Controller” option pop up. Do note that the controller won’t be compatible with all games.
