Harper Mayor Launches Ambitious Safety Campaign

Harper City, Maryland – Striving to improve the quality of life of residents of the City of Harper, City Mayor Abraham Baltimore Jackson has launched an ambitious initiative to enhance safety and revive Harper City, starting with the demolition of structures that encroach on pedestrian walkways around the city.

This campaign which is part of Jackson’s broader vision to enhance the city’s infrastructure, is also aimed at improving pedestrian safety and ensuring the free flow of traffic for both commuters and motorists.

In recent weeks, the soft-spoken mayor has focused on clearing businesses whose roofs extended into the streets, forcing pedestrians to walk in the main streets and obstructing the free flow of both foot and vehicle traffic. This clearance effort has already led to the removal of several structures found to be in violation of city regulations.

One defiant business owner was arrested on Thursday, November 21, after refusing to comply with the demolition order. The individual was charged with “obstructing” the work of the Harper City Corporation (HCC) and was subsequently forwarded to court.

In a related incident, a roaming cow was shot and killed by HCC police on Saturday, November 23, after it was found grazing in a public area. The owner, who had been given an ultimatum to contain livestock within the city but failed to do so, was fined $150 for non-compliance.

Roaming of cattle have in the city been a long-standing issue in Harper, and the mayor’s office is taking a firm stance on enforcing stringent animal containment regulations.

Mayor Jackson also announced that trucks and other heavy vehicles parked in central areas, obstructing traffic, will be impounded going forward. To address the growing issue, a new truck parking station will open next week to provide a designated space for vehicles bringing goods into the city. This will allow for easier offloading while minimizing congestion in busy areas.

Renovations continue at the City Hall, where the mayor has initiated a fresh coat of paint and upgraded lighting around the building, a symbol of pride for Marylanders. These improvements are part of Jackson’s ongoing efforts to enhance the city’s visual appeal and functionality.

During a visit from U.S. Ambassador Mark Toner earlier this week, Mayor Jackson presented a proposal seeking support for the renovation of the City Hall Theater.

This request further underscores his commitment to preserving the historical and cultural landmarks of Harper City.
