Google’s tools fuel $16b boost to Sub-Saharan Africa’s economy in 2023 – Report reveals

Google’s report has revealed that its tools and programmes contributed a significant $16 billion to Sub-Saharan Africa’s economy in 2023 alone.

This was contained in a report titled: “The Digital Opportunity of Sub-Saharan Africa,” which highlighted the impact of digital technologies on the region’s economy.

The key findings of the report include empowerment of small and medium-sized businesses, SMBs.

It stated that “Google’s digital solutions have empowered over 1 million small and medium-sized businesses, boosting their productivity and revenue.

“Accelerating connectivity: Android devices have helped an additional 30 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa gain internet access, bridging the digital divide.

“Entrepreneurial support: Google’s programmes, such as Google for Startups Accelerator and the Black Founders Fund, have nurtured a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem.

“AI’s Economic potential: AI is estimated to contribute over $30 billion to Sub-Saharan Africa’s economy, and Google is at the forefront of responsible AI development.

“Strong ROI: Every $1 invested in digital solutions is projected to generate over $2 in broader economic value by 2030.”

On Google’s commitment to digital transformation, the report stated that, 

“Google’s commitment to fostering digital innovation in Sub-Saharan Africa has been instrumental in driving economic growth and creating opportunities. 

“By providing accessible tools, infrastructure, and support, Google is empowering individuals and businesses to thrive in the digital age,” the report revealed
