Githunguri: DP to attend Agriculture reforms conference Friday

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is tomorrow (Friday) expected in Githunguri Constituency, Kiambu County, for a one-day working tour on the ongoing reforms in the Agriculture sector.

The DP will begin his visit at Komothai Coffee Growers Cooperative Society, where he will attend the farmers’ Special General Meeting.

Komothai Cooperative Society,which comprises  Riakahara, Gathiru-ini, Barikongo, Kagwanja, Kirura, Korokoro, Githongo, Thiururi, Kaibu, New Thuita, Kanake, Gatuyu and Kamuchege factories, is one of the leading Saccos owned by smallholder coffee farmers.

The DP will later visit Gathiru-ini Coffee Factory and Kigumo Coffee Millers for an inspection tour before addressing the farmers on the ongoing reforms in the sub-sector.

Among the key functions of Deputy President Gachagua, as assigned through Executive Order No.2 of 2023, is leading the Coffee Sub-Sector Reforms Implementation Standing Committee.

Agriculture being the largest sector of the economy, contributing half of Kenya’s GDP, the Kenya Kwanza administration prioritized revival of coffee industry to boost the rural economy; a role DP Gachagua has been overseeing and is bearing fruit.
