Gideon Mensah has hailed the role Andre Ayew played in his impressive World Cup debut against South Korea in Qatar.The left-back was on the bench for Ghanas first match against Portugal but was called upon for the second game against the Asians.According to Mensah, he was nervous during the warm-up.The Auxerre man hadnt experienced such a huge stage in his career, and it took the wise counsel of Ayew to help him relax and deliver.”I remember during the warm-up, the captain Andre Ayew came to me,” Mensah recalled in an interview with Flashscore. “It was like head to head; his head was right in front of my forehead.He said, ‘Listen, youve been waiting for this. This is the moment where you need to show everybodys watching you. You cant make mistakesyou cant let them down.'”Mensah impressed, helping Ghana secure a 3-2 win that revived their chances of qualifying from the group, but those hopes were later dashed following a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay.The 26-year-old who made his Black Stars debut in 2019 is now a regular with 19 appearances in total under his belt.
