‘Ghost of Tsushima’ bags popular player’s vote in Game Awards 2020

Round three of the Game Awards 2020 was tense. Fans from both Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part II sat looking as the two games neared the crossing line head-to-head.

While The Last of Us Part II had the lead for most of the round, Ghost of Tsushima fans swooped in at the last minute to push Lord Jin Sakai and his band of warriors over the finish line.

“Thank you so much to all the Ghost Of Tsushima fans who voted! Your support this year has been encouraging and inspiring, and we are so appreciative. Thank you for everything you do and for the time you’ve spent playing through Jin’s journey and Legends. You mean the world to us!”

Sucker Punch Productions

As per Earl T Kim, who portrays Norio in Ghost of Tsushima, it’s likely due to Ghosties in Europe, Asia and Africa getting our votes in while the rest of the world was sleeping. For honour!

The Game Awards organisers confirmed that Sucker Punch Productions Ghost of Tsushima was able to topple Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II during the round three of voting, the Player’s Voice Award.

The runners-up for the Play’s Voice round includes Supergiant Games’ Hades, id Software’s DOOM Eternal, and Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. All worthy contenders.

That said, winning the Player’s Voice Award doesn’t necessarily mean Ghost of Tsushima will walk off with the Game of the Year (GOTY) Award. Fans do have a say, sure, but it comes down to a panel of judges.

Game Awards 2020 presenters and surprises

We are in for a treat. The organisers confirmed that Geoff Keighley would be hosting the award ceremony, while a line-up of well-known actors, developers and artists will be part of the festivities.

These include Christopher Nolan, Brie Larson, Tom Holland, Troy Baker, Nolan North and Gal Gadot.  Pearl Jam also confirmed that Eddie Vedder will perform at the 2020 Game Awards.

The Game Awards pre-show starts 15:30 PST (Pacific Standard Time) on Thursday 10 December, which is 1:30 SAST (South African Standard Time) on Friday, 11 December 2020. You might want to set a reminder for that.
