Ghana missing out on the 2025 AFCON embarrassing – Ernest Thompson

Ernest Thompson, a former Management Committee Member of the Black Stars, has called Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) ‘deeply embarrassing’.Missing out on a group that included Sudan, Niger, and Angola marks the Black Stars’ first AFCON absence in over two decades. The Black Stars finished bottom of Group F without winning a single game and lost at home to Angola and Niger. The team’s performances in most games were not impressive as well though the team is full of quality players, leaving many wondering what is wrong.Simply put, the situation we find ourselves in is extremely embarrassing. Of course, we’ve missed the AFCON about six times,” Ernest Thompson told Joy Sports.”I remember when Rwanda took us off [in 2003] and we couldn’t go to one [in 2004], but this is extremely embarrassing for a lot of reasons, none the least being the fact that the team itself is not playing well.”The GFA Executive Council is scheduled to meet on Wednesday to deliberate Ghanas poor performance in the AFCON Qualifiers and consider Otto Addo’s future.
