GFA should not put pressure on Black Stars to perform on bad pitches – Derek Boateng

Former Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to avoid pressuring Black Stars players to perform on subpar pitches in Ghana. With Ghana’s next home game in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan set to be played abroad, CAF has withdrawn approval for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to host Category Three matches due to ongoing pitch issues. This situation has drawn attention, especially following the team’s recent defeat to Angola in the opening qualifier, which many attribute to the poor playing surface. If they care, they care; if the FA cares about football, they have to make sure that those things are done before the players arrive, Boanteng told reporters. But for me, they cannot put any pressure on players by saying they are not playing well or performing wellits coming from them.Football is played outside before we go onto the pitch. So, for me, they have to wake up and do something about those issues. It’s so sad that we are in this kind of situation right now.
