George Afriyie pleads not guilty to GFA’s charges of misconduct

George AfriyieFormer vice president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has filed his response to misconduct charges leveled against him by the GFA Prosecutor, pleading not guilty and asserting that his remarks were misconstrued. My comments were taken out of context, misinterpreted, and do not constitute improper conduct, Afriyie stated, defending his remarks as a misrepresentation. The charges, brought against him on November 7, stemmed from comments Afriyie made during an interview on Kumasi-based Kessben TV.In that interview, he cited alleged match-fixing incidents involving Ashantigold and Inter Allies, implying manipulation in the Ghana Premier League. The GFA argued that these remarks harmed the leagues reputation, invoking Section 11(2)(d) of the 2019 GFA Disciplinary Code, which forbids conduct that brings the name of the league into disrepute. With Afriyies formal response submitted, the GFA Prosecutor will now review his claims against the cited regulations before determining his guilt or exoneration.
