Funeral Program for Emeritus Archbishop of Tororo Diocese Released

The Uganda Episcopal Conference has released the burial program of His Grace Denis Lote Kiwanuka, the Emeritus Archbishop of Tororo, who passed away on Sunday at Nsambya Hospital Kampala

According to Msgnr John Baptist Kauta the Secretary General of the conference, the program will commence with a requiem mass at Lubaga Cathedral Kampala today at 2.00pm

On Wednesday, 27th April, 2022, the Funeral Entourage will leave Kampala for Pallisa Catholic Parish where a will be held at 12:00 noon.

Later on the Funeral Entourage will leave Pallisa for Tororo at 3:00 p.m. It’s expected to reach Uganda Martyrs Cathedral – Nyangole, Archdiocese at 5.00 pm

On Thursday, a Christian Funeral Mass and Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Uganda Martyrs Cathedral – Nyangole, Archdiocese of Tororo.

“We express our sincere condolence to the Archdiocese of Tororo and commend the soul of His Grace Denis Lote Kiwanuka to the Lord.” he said.

Kiwanuka was born on March 25, 1938 at Pallisa and was ordained to the Priesthood by Bishop James Odongo on the 19th day of December, 1965.

He served as the Second Bishop of Tororo – after Tororo diocese received the status of an Archdiocese.

After serving the diocese of Tororo in many capacities for several years Fr. Kiwanuka was elected to be the First Bishop of Kotido – located North-East of Tororo –  on June 8, 1991. In the same year on the 19th day of August, he was consecrated Bishop for that diocese.

Having done a tremendous job in pioneering that diocese as a Bishop, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on June 27, 2007 to return to Tororo to serve as the Second Metropolitan Archbishop.

Archbishop Kiwanuka served Tororo until the 2nd day of January 2014 when Pope Francis accepted his retirement request.
