Fuel price increase: Rule with human face – Tinubu told
..urged to reverse the increase
By Peter Duru, Makurdi
The Campaign for Equal Rights and Opportunities for all Nigerians, CERON, has urged President Bola Tinubu to rule Nigeria with a human face and give special attention to the condition of the poor who constitute the majority of the populace.
The Executive Secretary of CERON, Mr. Francis Odiir, who made the call Thursday in a statement in Makurdi pointed out that the recent increase in the pump price of petrol was an anti-people policy that would drive more Nigerians into poverty.
He advised the President to take special note of the general outcry of the people and reverse the decision as it was generating anger and tension in the country.
He emphasised that the foremost responsibility of government was the provision of purposeful leadership and make life meaningful for the people and not to impoverish them.
Odiir noted that “the hike in the pump price of petrol will push over 90 percent of Nigerians into unimaginable poverty.
“If impoverishing more Nigerians into poverty is what this government will boast of achieving in one year then I urge the President to do rethink of his policies.
“The increase in the pump price of petrol is clearly an anti-people policy that should be reversed immediately because there is mounting anger and tension across the country over the increase.
“Already the cost of transportation, food and other goods and services are on the rise because of the increase.
“In fact anyone who advised this government to increase the pump price of petrol does not mean well for President Tinubu’s government.
“The President owe Nigerians a duty to govern with human face. The increase in pump price clearly shows that those in government have completely disconnected from those they claimed to represent.
“Nigerians are dying daily because of lack. The people can no longer feed, the people are over burdened and the ruling class are still churning out policies that are meant to impoverish the people and the truth is that Nigerians are totally disappointed.”
