Four needy students receive full university scholarships from Citi FM/TV’s COPE

Citi FM/TV’s Citi Opportunity Project on Education (COPE) has granted full scholarships to some selected brilliant, but needy students, who excelled and satisfied the necessary requirements for their entry into some of Ghana’s public tertiary institutions.

COPE is a merit-based scholarship scheme that is open to outstanding Tertiary Students, who do not have the means to fund their education.

Currently, 50 students through donor support from our audiences are pursuing various courses in tertiary institutions across the country.

Over 1,000 applications, for the 2020/2021 academic year were received from students across the sixteen regions of Ghana, after a social media announcement. The applicants were carefully selected and four of them made it to the final list to benefit from COPE.

GHS 15,000 has been released from the COPE fund to cater for the tuition and accommodation of these beneficiaries.

One of the students, Kumah Salomey Ayivi, graduated from SHS with eight As and has gained admission into the University of Ghana Medical School, while Sallah Hope gained admission to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to pursue Electrical Engineering after graduating with  six As and two B2s.

Another beneficiary, Bonney Samuel Nii Awuley, also graduated with  sevent As and one B2 and has gained admission into the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to study Software Development.

Isaac Agbonyitor gained admission into the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology with six As, one B2 and a B3. He is set to pursue an Electrical Engineering degree.

Speaking on Citi TV’s lifestyle variety show, Upside Down which airs every Sunday at 7 pm, the four shortlisted students shared their riveting life stories, which earned each of them a slot as a beneficiary of the Citi Opportunity Project on Education.

Speaking after the show, Co-host of Upside Down, Frema Adunyame explained the reasons behind the COPE episode.

“Christmas is a season for giving and here at Citi TV, giving is one of our core values and so we are always looking at ways to impact lives; ways to add value to people’s lives. COPE, which is the Citi Opportunity Project on Education, is an avenue where we support brilliant but needy students and this time around we felt the time was so opportune, at Christmas to put smiles on the faces of some students who have no hope in attaining higher heights in education,” she said.
