Former Ghana star Michael Essien explains why he doesn’t want to be a head coach

Former Ghana international Michael Essien has ruled out the possibility of becoming a head coach amid links with the Ghana national team, Black Stars job.Essien stated that he has no plans to become a head coach, describing the job as too stressful.Since 2020, Essien has been working as an Individual Player Coach at Nordsjaelland, focusing on developing young talent.Despite being linked to the Black Stars coaching role, the 41-year-old revealed he has no interest in taking on the head coach position.Essien explained that the demands of being a head coach are high, and he prefers staying out of the spotlight.”For now, I am not thinking about being a head coach; it is too stressful. I like to be behind the scenes, away from these media duties and cameras in my face. But you never know; maybe at some point,” Essien told Joy Sports.He also praised Nordsjaelland, saying, “Ive been to many places, top clubs and everything, but the Nordsjaelland organisation is second to none.”Essien remains dedicated to guiding young players, noting that his presence offers them valuable learning experiences.During his playing career, Essien earned 59 caps for the Black Stars, scoring nine goals, despite being hampered by injuries.
