For dad: Jaden and Jordan Hendrikse make family proud
Jaden and Jordan Hendrikse have dedicated their game together and the Springboks’ subsequent victory to their late father.
The siblings played side by side in Cardiff, in positions 9 and 10, a historic first for the national team.
The Boks won their game against Wales 45-12, ending a successful test match season in 2014.
JADEN AND JORDAN HENDRIKSE DEDICATE GAME TO LATE DAD
Speaking to the media ahead of their game, Jordan Hendrikse told media that both he and his brother would be playing in memory of their late father, Brian Hendrikse.
The players’ father – who worked for the Department of Sport – died in June 2023.
According to the Breidbach-born brothers, their dad’s wish for them was to see his sons play scrumhalf and flyhalf on the same team and then play in the Boks together.
A year after his death, the first part of his wish became a reality when Jordan Hendrikse signed with the Sharks, where he played alongside Jordan.
Brian’s final wish came true as the siblings played in their first Springboks game together on Saturday in the starting squad.
On Instagram, Jaden and Jordan Hendrikse posted pictures of themselves after the game. The siblings posted, “Grateful” on their separate accounts.
PRAISE FROM RASSIE
Meanwhile, Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus had praise for both Jaden and Jordan Hendrikse.
He said in a post-match interview: “Jordan did exactly what was expected from him. I think he really took control, and I think playing with his brother helps a lot.
He added: “I think his decision-making was good. We like what we see in him..
“He is definitely among Manie [Libbok], Handre [Pollard], Sacha [Feinberg-Mongomezulu,] and Damian [Willemse].
“I think the depth [at flyhalf] is good, and we are proud of those two [Jordan and Jaden] and happy for them as a family.”
