First Lady urges fellow first ladies from Africa to close gender gap

The First Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto has rallied her fellow First Ladies in Africa to fast-track gender equity in their countries to ensure that girls and women are given equal opportunities for education and empowerment.

The First Lady was speaking in New York during the closure of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) #WeAreEqual meeting on the sidelines of UNGA 79.

The campaign was launched in 2023 and brought together First Ladies from Africa around 4 common themes; Health, Education, Women’s Economic Empowerment, and Gender-Based Violence.
