First Lady solicits votes for Bawumia, parliamentary candidates

The First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has urged the electorate to choose number one on the ballot paper come December 7 and endorse the candidature of Dr Mahamadu Bawumia.

According to her, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration has shown much commitment to the development of Ghana under the Fourth Republic than any other party contesting in this year’s election.

“Don’t let anyone deceive you into thinking that a change of government is necessary. We have made tremendous progress under our current leadership, we must ensure it is sustained,” Mrs Akufo-Addo said.

She made the call during a campaign tour of the Ablekuma North and Okaikwei South constituencies, in the Greater Accra Region, yesterday.

The campaign saw her woo the electorate to also vote for the NPP parliamentary candidates for Okaikwei South, Ms Darkoa Newman, and Ablekuma North, Nana Akua Afriyie.

The First Lady expressed gratitude to all individuals who supported her throughout her tenure, acknowledging the invaluable encouragement, guidance, and trust reposed in her.

She urged that the support given to her and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, be extended to the Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, to enable him to continue the excellent work of the government.

Mrs Akufo-Addo praised Dr Bawumia, describing him as an exceptional individual who has been instrumental in driving numerous innovative ideas, to promote the nation’s development.

She commended Dr Bawumia for the establishment of SME banks and provision of loans to improve the economic status of citizens and businesses at large.

“We started free SHS over the years and we are the same people that can continue and make it last for our future generations,” Mrs Akufo-Addo reminded the electorate.

Ms Darkoa Newman, who is also Member of Parliament (MP) of Okaikwei South Constituency, urged the people to vote for her to bring development to the area.

The NPP Okaikwei South parliamentary candidate expressed her profound gratitude to the First Lady for supporting her to attain success.

Ms Newman said “the NPP government has a lot of good plans for the country and ought to be retained in power.”

Nana Akua Afriyie encouraged parents to educate their children who were eligible voters on proper voting procedures, saying; a single spoilt ballot could potentially swing the election outcome.

“The time for the future is near and we have to make the right decision to drive our economy forward. Please, vote number one for Dr Bawumia and vote for me too, as the parliamentary candidate of Ablekuma North,” she said.
