We haven’t yet completed the third and final round of group matches at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but already nine nations have been eliminated.
In Group A, Ecuador and hosts Qatar failed to progress to the Round of 16, with group winners the Netherlands and AFCON champions Senegal moving into the next round.
In Group B, England and the USA remain alive, while Iran and Wales have packed their bags.
In Group C, Mexico and Saudi Arabia will take no further part in the tournament while group winners Argentina and runners-up Poland will live to fight another day.
In Group D, France and perhaps surprise packages Australia are through to the Round of 16 while Tunisia and Denmark are heading home.
Finally, in Group F, Canada have been mathematically eliminated from contention despite not yet having played their third and final group match.
More casualties will join the nine nations mentioned above in the coming days as the 32 teams that started the tournament are halved for the next Round of 16 knockout stage.
