FDC’s Amuriat Released From Police Detention After Morning Fracas
The Forum for Democratic Change’s (FDC) Presidential Candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat aka POA has been released detention by Kitgum Police.
Amuriat who according to the Electoral Commission (EC) programme was expected to campaign in Lamwo and Kitgum, was blocked from proceeding to Kitgum district by security under the command of Tommy Eyaku the Kitgum District Police Commander (DPC).
He was intercepted twice at Akura and later at Matiri Town, all located in Kitgum District. At the time of his arrest, Amuriat was travelling from Agago where he campaigned yesterday.
A verbal disagreement ensued between FDCs National Field Coordinator Roland Kaginda and a police officer only identified as Akena who insisted they take their campaigns to Lamwo on grounds that President Yoweri Museveni was in town.
However, Kaginda differed saying that instead it should be Museveni to go elsewhere since he was not expected in this area according to EC’s schedule.
After a stalemate that lasted about two hours, Police forcefully arrested the FDC candidate and drove him to Kitgum town.
A goose chase ensued with FDCs four vehicle convoy chasing after Police vans which they managed to block on the fringes of Kitgum town.
Police under the command of Eyaku, turned around and took the Kitgum-Lamwo route but were also blocked in the middle of the busy highway.
Amid stalemate, the two parties decided to dialogue which eventually culminated with Amuriat’s release
By publication, Police was escorting the FDC team to Lamwo where he is expected to address a campaign meeting at 2:00 PM.
