FDC’s Amuriat: Pepper Spray Attack Left Me Blind for 5 Hours
Forum for Democratic Change’s (FDC) Presidential Candidate, Patrick Oboi Amuriat has spoken out on Monday’s incident wherein he was severely tear-gassed at Buwayo village on the Bugiri-Busia stretch.
Amuriat was pepper sprayed by a Police Field Force Unit (FFU) Officer known as Abraham Asiimwe aka Bravo after he purportedly declined Police’s request to use an alternative route to Mbale district.
He was then subsequently hospitalized at Fastline medical center in Bugiri before being transferred to a unnamed health facility in Mbale City.
Clad in two thick spectacles, Amuriat disclosed to residents of Mukongoro Town Council in Kanyum Town Council, Bukedea District on Tuesday December 29, 2020 that the incident has since left him bruised.
Amuriat sought to campaign in Tororo where campaigns have been suspended as the place is categorized as a COVID-19 hotspot.
When pepper spray comes into contact with a person’s eyes, it causes immediate eye closure, acute eye pain, and temporary blindness.
Some people describe a bubbling or boiling sensation and severe discomfort.
Pepper spray can also lead to a dry cough or wheezing.
Amuriat who is today expected to campaign in Amolatar and Lira Districts spent the better part of the day bashing his onetime ally Capt. Mike Mukula and Government’s poverty alleviation Programmes that he says have only made matters worse.
His remarks came in the wake of increasing confrontations between the Opposition supporters and security forces.
A similar fracas at the beginning of this week left a local press man Ashraf Kasirye gravely wounded.
“Our task team in Greater Masaka had violent confrontations with NUP candidate and his supporters at a check point in Kyabakuza after they defied the route plan agreed upon at Kyotera district,” Police rebutted.
