Failure to qualify for AFCON a justification to terminate Otto Addo’s contract – George Afriyie
George AfriyieFootball administrator George Afriyie has called for a review of Black Stars head coach Otto Addos contract following the teams failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).The former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice president argued that qualification for AFCON was a key condition in Addos contract, and failing to meet this target provides grounds for dismissal.Qualification to AFCON is one of the conditions that can warrant the termination of a contract. It is standard in these agreements, and failure to achieve that gives the FA every reason to terminate the contract, Afriyie stated in an interview with Graphic Sports. While advocating for Addos departure, Afriyie also stressed the need for a comprehensive evaluation of the coachs overall performance, including his handling of the World Cup qualifiers, before a final decision is made.We need to evaluate the coachs performance holistically, including his handling of the World Cup qualifiers, to determine whether he should stay or go, he explained. The Black Stars will wrap up their AFCON qualifying series on Monday against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium in a dead-rubber game.
