Uganda Premier League champions, Express Football Club and Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) are among the ten teams confirmed for the 2021 CECAFA Kagame Cup.
The tournament that is played by the reigning champions of the major football leagues in countries located in the CECAFA region will commence on 1st – 15th August 2021, hosted in Dar es Salaam – Tanzania.
Express FC will feature in this year’s edition as Uganda Premier League Champions while KCCA FC has been invited as the Kagame Cup holders.
Other clubs include Atlabara FC (South Sudan), Yanga Africans SC (Tanzania), Azam FC (Tanzania), Le Messager Ngozi FC (Burundi), APR FC (Rwanda), Tusker FC (Kenya), KMKM (Zanzibar) and guests Big Bullets from Makawi.
The ten participants will be pitted in two pools, each comprising of 4 teams with draws scheduled to be conducted for Tuesday.
KCCA are holders of the CECAFA Kagame Cup after edging Tanzania’s Azam FC (1-0) during the 2019 final played at Stade de Kigali in Rwanda thanks to a Kizza Mustafa lone strike.
The prestigious event didn’t take part last year following the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.
2019 was the second time that the Kasassiro Boys were winning the regional championship after their first time in 1978.
