Exclusive: Cape Town Spurs young star set for Betway Prem move
Cape Town Spurs young star set for Betway Premiership move as training suspension signals exit.
Siviwe Nkwali, the talented 19-year-old defender from CT Spurs, has been told to stay away from first-team training, signalling his imminent departure from the Motsepe Foundation Championship side. Nkwali, who impressed in his promotion from Spurs’ academy in January, is set to sign a pre-contract with a new Premier Soccer League (PSL) club.
Deadlock between Nkwali and Spurs leads to his exit
Reports indicate that Nkwali and Cape Town Spurs reached a deadlock in contract negotiations over the past week. Despite Spurs’ relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship in May, the club managed to retain some of their best talents, including Nkwali. However, with no agreement in sight for a new deal, it’s clear that Nkwali’s time at Spurs is coming to an end.
Spurs, who were hoping to keep the young defender as part of their plans, now face the reality of losing Nkwali in the upcoming transfer window. Sources reveal that the club has already received at least one offer for the player, though they rejected it, as it didn’t meet their valuation.
Nkwali’s move to Sekhukhune allegedly imminent
In a significant development, it is understood that Nkwali is on the verge of signing a pre-contract with Sekhukhune United.
“Ernst (Middendorp) has made it clear to Siviwe (Nkwali) that he’s no longer part of the first team. This decision was communicated to Siviwe on Saturday, and it’s understood that Siviwe will sign a pre-contract with Sekhukhune United. It seems like it’s over for the academy graduate. That’s all I know,” a source revealed.
Nkwali, part of the Amajita squad that recently qualified for the Under 20 Africa Cup of Nations, has seen his value rise. However, Spurs face losing him for nothing when his contract expires in June unless a last-minute change occurs.
Spurs struggling as key players depart
This situation comes amid a tough season for Cape Town Spurs so far. Who have only won two out of their 11 games, placing them just above the relegation zone. Despite efforts to hold on to their key assets, Spurs have already lost several prominent players. This includes centre-back Rushwin Dortley to Kaizer Chiefs, as well as captain Chumani Butsaka and striker Ashley Cupido to Stellenbosch FC. With Nkwali now following suit, the club faces significant setbacks in their push for promotion.
Spurs’ investment in Nkwali’s development will go unrewarded. As they are set to lose the promising defender without receiving any financial return. As Nkwali prepares to possibly leave for Sekhukhune United. Spurs must now regroup and reassess their strategy for the future, as their on-field struggles continue.
Spurs face a difficult road ahead, with their top young talent on the way out and key players already sold. Nkwali’s decision to move on, coupled with Spurs’ ongoing struggles in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. It’s something that could mark the beginning of a major rebuilding phase for the club.
