ERA Partners with Uganda Blood Transfusion Services for Mega Blood Donation Drive

The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) in partnership with the Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS) recently completed a week-long blood donation drive held from 9th to 13th November, 2020 at the Constitutional Square, Kampala.

The drive targeted to address the current blood shortage in the Country occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Ms. Diana Naisuna Nambi, the Acting Manager Communication at ERA, “the partnership with UBTS for the blood donation drive was in line with the Authority’s Corporate Social Responsibility Policy that focuses on interventions in health, education, disasters, and the environment.”

“ERA is pleased to have contributed to this life-saving initiative that will impact hundreds of Ugandans with a new lease of life,” she added.

The drive yielded over 300 units of blood donated by ERA Staff, stakeholders in the Electricity Supply Industry, and the general public.

Besides the blood donation drive, ERA has previously sponsored a number of projects geared towards improving the livelihoods of communities.

These include protection of spring wells in various parts of the Country and tree planting to restore the catchment areas of the rivers that host hydropower plants/projects in the Central, Western, West Nile and Northern Regions of Uganda.

ERA has also supported various schools with reading materials and furniture.

In addition, on an annual basis, the Authority organizes a project dubbed “Women in Energy” through which women serving in the energy sector inspire the young female generation to pursue a career in sciences.

Launched in March 2019, the project has been credited for building the confidence of girls in pursuing science subjects and improving their performance.
