Election 2024: Clergyman urges Ghanaians to respect electoral laws

The Ga West Presbytery Chairperson, Reverend Enoch Adjei Pobee, has urged Ghanaians to adhere to electoral instructions and laws, to ensure the success of the 2024 General Election.

With five months away from the polls, he said, it was crucial for institutions and organisations to educate and sensitise voters on electoral regulations.

Rev. Pobee made the call at the dedication of a chapel for the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Riis Congregation, Gbawe, Accra, over the weekend.

He said that respect for electoral laws, was a prerequisite for effective electioneering, free and peaceful elections, and to guarantee the safety of voters.

“When you go and vote on the election day, the instruction is that when you finish voting go home. When it is 5pm and you want to listen to the results, you can come back and wait patiently. Do not come and fight because fighting or dying is not worth it,” Rev. Pobee advised.

He said the PCG was committed to seeking the development of the people of the Gbawe community and its environs.

Touching on Christian values, Rev. Pobee said “nowadays, some Christians make too much noise and do not hear God when he speaks.”

He also expressed worry that some Christians were putting too much trust in mankind, pastors and prophets, forgetting the source of Christianity.

“I wish we will go back to the Bible and the basis so that all of us can redirect and put our trust in Jesus Christ, who came from heaven to die and pour down his blood so that we can be saved,” Rev. Pobee admonished.

He noted that there was proliferation of churches in the country, yet it was not impacting positively on the country.

Rev. Pobee urged: “Christians to redirect their prayers, attention, worship, adoration and praises to Jesus Christ because he is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end and the one who has the power to do and undo all things.”

A founding member of the chapel, PCG, Gbawe, Mr Agymang Karikari, recalled that early 1986, the Bible Study and Prayer Group of Kaneshie Congregation formed an outreach team to evangelise at Gbawe.

He said “as the number of Gbawe congregants grew due to the house-to-house evangelism, we saw the need to acquire land to construct a chapel.
