EFF set to elect top six, Malema set to lead, who deputise him?

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is set to elect new leadership on Saturday, 14 December.

The party is holding its third National People’s Assembly at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.

Delegates will also nominate and vote for additional members to the Central Command Team.

As previously reported, Julius Malema said he is absolutely available to lead the EFF for a third term. He will likely be elected to lead the Red Berets for another five years as it is not yet clear if anyone will contest him.

In August, EFF co-founder and Malema’s former deputy Floyd Shivambu ditched the Red Berets to join the Jacob Zuma-led uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party where he has since been appointed secretary-general. The deputy president position has been vacant since.

According to reports, Malema favours former deputy secretary-general Godrich Gardee to be his deputy, while, others want former spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi to be his deputy. However, earlier on Saturday, Malema told journalists that Ndlozi is not at the ongoing National People’s Assembly.

“He is not here. I heard people saying he is here he’s doing this…he’s not here! It’s not in our interest to entertain such nonsense. We’re dealing with political issues here not egoism, not people who think they are bigger than this organisation.

“So, as a matter of principle and policy position, we’re no longer going to answer any nonsense about Mbuyiseni Ndlozi. Never! This matter is closed,” he said.

Regarding the type of person he wants to deputise him, Malema said he will not disclose that to avoid being accused of favouring certain people.
