Edo 2024: Obaseki’s travails self-inflicted says Idahosa

By Ozioruva Aliu

BENIN CITY – A former member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon Charles Idahosa on Wednesday said Governor Godwin Obaseki has been raising the alarm of being intimidated because, for the first time, he was running an election alone haven discarded all the political leaders that have helped him politically since 2016.

Idahosa who left the APC with Obaseki in 2020 when he was denied a second term ticket to the PDP told journalists in an interview that the purported Obaseki’s travails were self-inflicted adding that this is the first time Obaseki will be running an election on his own.

According to Idahosa, “I need to put some clarification on what has been happening. Godwin Obaseki has been saying that he is being harassed, he is being intimidated and they are fighting him.

“He is facing election for the first time on his own, all the leaders that have been working for him that brought him to power, he has abandoned all of them, that is what he is suffering. 90 per cent of the leaders that left with him from APC to PDP to return him as governor have left him. That is what you gain when you are a serial betrayal.

“He betrayed all the leaders, he pushed all of them underground, he has fought the system, he has fought the traditional institution, he has fought party leaders, he has fought his deputy governor so I don’t like a situation where he goes on national television saying federal might, there is nothing like federal might. What he is experiencing is self-inflicted because he thought he was already home and dry.

The former Commissioner for Information under the Lucky Igbinedion government and Special Adviser, Political, to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as governor, assured that in spite of the alarms raised by the Edo State Government and the PDP, ” this election will be free, fair and nobody will be intimidated”

Idahosa added that Governor Obaseki would not have had any headaches about the election if he had accorded all those who assisted him politically their due respect.

“But, here we have Obaseki who will leave his comfort zone and will be looking for trouble where there is none.

“During his reelection in 2020, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Edo State was from Bayelsa, who was a governorship aspirant under APC. Is it today that he just realised that the REC in this election is related of Wike? ” Idahosa queried.

The APC stalwart appealed to the governor to allow the Police to do its job of fishing out those who killed Inspector Akor Anuh on July 18, 2024.
