By Ozioruva Aliu

BENIN CITY – A FEW days after he resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), a former member of the Edo State House of Assembly and the only APC member in the house from 2020 to 2024, Hon Emmanuel Agbaje popularly called Emilo has formally joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

He was received in Ososo Ward 10 during the PDP rally by the deputy governor, Marvellous Omobayo, the chairman of Akoko-Edo local government area, Hon Tajudeen Alade and other chieftains of the PDP.

Omobayo said that Agbaje’s defection is a big catch and a win-win for the party, noting, “Akoko-Edo is heterogenous with multi-lingual affinities. Ososo people are known for their resilience, a unique community with one ward. Emilo is a leader God has ordained and his coming to join us is a big plus for our party the PDP, its candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie.”

Also speaking, a chieftain of the party, Mr Bayo Ogedengbe said hunger and starvation in the country, occasioned by improper management of the fuel subsidy removal by the APC-led federal government was becoming unbearable.

Addressing the crowd, the Akoko-Edo local government council chairman, Hon Tajudeen Alade Suleman Esq described Agbaje as a man who is conscious of the development of Akoko-Edo people adding that the election would be a walk-over.

“I and the DG are working round the clock because we are passionate about the development of our LGA. Those trying to perpetrate evil in our land should have a rethink. On our part, we rely on our PVCs to pursue them. On light issues, myself and the DG are working assiduously to fix it.

On his part, Agbaje said he decided to join the PDP because it was the party that has the people of Akoko-Edo at heart.

“We have not come here by error, we are here after a careful consultation. We looked at all the political parties and chose the one that has the interest of our people, which party has us in mind. For the first time in the history of Akoko-Edo, we have a deputy governor, we want self-determination, we want a government that will respond to us as a people, we are tired of the party that has been lying to us, and that is why we chose the PDP.

“APC is synonymous with lies and this is no longer funny. The continuous increase in petroleum pump prices, soaring inflation and increase in food commodities precipitated our mass exodus to a party where we can freely discuss issues affecting our people. I pursued with great vigour, the fixing of Ososo-Okpella road while in the house of assembly and I’m happy that it is a reality today.” Agbaje added.

“It has been my age-long dream while in the APC to be in the same party with the council chairman owing to his developmental strides across the local government area and today it is a reality”

Other speakers include Hon Tunde Lakoju who said he decided to come out of his political retirement to identify with the real Progressives, High Chief Jude Ologun, Prince Kayode Ogunubi, Rt Hon Yekini Idaiye, EDHA member representing constituency I, Chief Shegun Saiki, Chief Monday Sule Okomayin, Mrs Philomena Balogun among others who used to occasion to drum support for Asue Ighodalo.
