Dfcu Awarded for Supporting Fight against Cancer

The Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) has awarded dfcu bank for their contribution towards the fight against cancer through donations to children with cancer, supporting cancer awareness campaigns, donations of patients’ waiting shed, and mobilizing resources for various causes.

Joseph Kasaija, Head of Government Business, who received the award on behalf of DFCU Managing Director, applauded the management and UCI Board for recognizing dfcu bank as one of their key partners.

He pledged more support to the cancer fight, saying UCI gave the Bank a platform to contribute towards improving health.

“In our first engagement, we noticed the patients that were coming from upcountry were lying within the corridors and all these vagaries of nature; the sun, rains were applying to them and they needed a place where they can wait from while they’re getting their medication. The bank contributed Shs 120m to put up a structure which is now up and running,” he said.

He noted that the other areas where they wanted to offer support were to equip the banker that was being built, “and this is under discussion.”

The Bank also contributed towards making services more efficient at the Institute.

“We came in with our e-Solutions which became very handy during the covid-19 pandemic because banks were equally affected like any other institutions,” he said.

Adding: “However, using our tools especially agency banking, we collected money for UCI and these funds are relevant for the institution. As I speak now, the system is working very well, funds are being handled by the bank and we are leaving the doctors and technocrats to focus on treating our people.”
