Nigerian sensation Davido and Focalistic have bonded greatly over their appreciation for the amapiano sound. The two teamed up on the Ke Star remix earlier this year and recently released their new collaboration Champion Sound. The music video directed by British-born director Dalia Dias shows off all that London has to offer.
DAVIDO AND FOCALISTIC’S BOND
Focalistic’s Ke Star was one of South Africa’s biggest amapiano songs in 2020. While South Africa was in lockdown due to COVID-19, our homes lit up with Focalistic’s voice. A few months later, Davido hopped onto the remix.
During an interview on Apple Music, Focalistic shared that he and Davido met in 2019 at a nightclub in Pretoria. After hearing one of Focalistic’s songs, Davido called the award-winning amapiano star over to praise him.
“Fast forward, two years later, Ke Star went number one on the Nigerian Apple Music chart,” said Focalistic.
“We went back to shoot the music video in Nigeria and understanding how amapiano was going global, seeing people dance to it, seeing people make their different variants. It’s been amazing.”
The two superstar musicians teamed up on Champion Sound and they lit up the streets of London for the music video. The two superstars had London locals busting out their favourite amapiano moves.
The track sees the two artists meshing Pretoria slang (S’Pitori) and Pidgin English for a vibrant amapiano track.
The music video also features snippets from their electric performances in London earlier this year. The song itself debuted on the World Digital Song Sales charts on Billboard at number 13.

FOCALISTIC AND DAVIDO EP ON THE WAY?
During an Instagram live in April, Focalistic and Davido announced that they would be working on a 4-track EP for the summer. “Let’s f*ck it up” said Focalistic.
The EP will come after Focalistic’s EP President Ya Straata released on 24 September and Davido’s 2020 album, A Better Time.
