DA: Ahem… Cele and Lamola, any news regarding charges laid against Malema and co

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has submitted parliamentary questions to police minister Bheki Cele and justice minister Ronald Lamola regarding various criminal charges laid against EFF leader Julius Malema and other members of his party.

The DA has laid charges ranging from hate speech to incitement to violence against various EFF members throughout the year after a series of incendiary statements on various social media platforms.

“I laid charges against Malema in September this year for incitement which led to the destruction of property during the EFF protest against Clicks. DA Chief Whip Natasha Mazzone MP has also laid various charges against Mr Malema MP as well as other EFF members,” said DA leader John Steenhuisen.

The DA has also laid criminal charges against EFF MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi for incitement to arson following a song he sang in Senekal translating to “call the fire brigade, burn these Boers.”

Charge Malema

The Democratic Alliance also called on Cele to charge the EFF leader with incitement to commit violence against members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and their families.

“The ANC government appears terrified to act against Malema in spite of numerous incidents of incitement, threats and violent rhetoric towards South African citizens, businesses and now the State.”

“The parliamentary questions will ensure transparency regarding the investigation and prosecution of all the charges laid against EFF leader Julius Malema and his cronies and that the wheels of justice continue turning, however slowly,” the DA said.

“Unless they are held to account for their criminal behaviour, the danger that South Africans will become used to and eventually immune to the EFF’s vicious antics aimed at disruption, destruction, and intimidation looms large.”

EFF a one-trick pony

The EFF’s actions continue to rubbish their claims that they are fighting for the poor, the vulnerable and the disenfranchised, the DA added.

“Through their violence and destruction, they continually put lives and livelihoods in danger. Their destruction of infrastructure during protests has a direct influence on the poorest in the country.”

South Africa’s biggest opposition party said the EFF is perpetuating the notion that there are more that separate South Africans than that which unites through their “racist and violent remarks.”

The DA said it’s an EFF strategy hoping to attract more votes.

The party said what the EFF is really doing is a highly effective parlour trick.

“While South Africans are watching the increasing vandalism and race-baiting, the EFF leaders are distracting people from their terrible track records of corruption, poor governance, and empty promises.”

“The EFF is a one-trick pony and it’s time that poor pony retires.”
