Currie Cup Premier Division: Bulls vs Lions – Preview

2 min read

Bulls vs Lions: Round Six of the 2021 Currie Cup sees a Jukskei derby play out at Loftus Versfeld.

Bulls vs Lions: Preview

The Bulls come into this match bolstered by their performance against South Africa ‘A’ when a second half rally saw the men in blue overwhelm a team full of internationals.

At the heart of their performance was a brilliant display from former Springbok Johan Goosen on his Bulls debut.

Goosen will start his first Currie Cup match for the Bulls, as they look to secure their position in the top four and press for a home semi-final in defence of their domestic title.

The Lions are a team building for the future and have a bright prospect in their number 10 Jordan Hendrikse.

Hendrikse missed part of the Currie Cup campaign due to his involvement in the South Africa Under-20 International series, and is fast becoming a player of interest.

The Lions pack face the stiff task of securing any set phase ball against a beefy Bulls pack.

The men from Johannesburg will be hurting when they travel north after losing to Tafel Lager Griquas on Wednesday, while the Vodacom Bulls will take some form into the match after they beat the SA ‘A’ team in Cape Town last weekend.

The last time they met in the Carling Currie Cup was in the 2020 semi-finals, where the Vodacom Bulls beat their neighbours by 26-21 to progress to the final, which they won a week later in Pretoria.
