CS Mutua encourages youth to seek job opportunities abroad
The Cabinet Secretary (CS) in the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection Alfred Mutua has urged unemployed youths in the country with competent skills to apply for jobs abroad in order to uplift their livelihoods.
Consequently, Mutua said there are many jobs abroad more than the applicants saying they should take advantage of this opportunity in an effort to combat poverty afflicting many in the country.
The Cabinet Secretary said this at Wote Technical Training Institute (TTI) during a recruitment exercise for the unemployed youths in Makueni County, however, he did not specify the number of available jobs abroad.
He further urged the youth who have been recruited to ensure they apply for passports and assured them that the government will fastrack the issuance of the official document to enable them travel abroad.
“There are jobs in Germany, Qatar and Poland. There is no point of having young people here doing nothing yet there are jobs abroad,” Dr. Mutua said while addressing the hundreds of recruits at Wote TTI.
“If you don’t have a passport, the government will put in place plans to ensure you get the passport within one or two days maximum,” he observed.
However, the CS reminded them that it was their responsibility to apply through the E-citizen platform so that the government can be able to facilitate the issuance of the document to enable them travel abroad.
Dr. Mutua disclosed that those who were recruited got jobs as teachers, nurses, gardeners, house maids, plant operators, chefs and security guards among others.
He further said that female and male drivers were in a big demand hence urged the youths to come out and be registered and ensure they get the jobs in order to get money and improve their living standards.
During the event, jubilant youths who were recruited thanked the government for the good gesture that is going to remove them from poverty.
They are expected to take up the jobs immediately after they complete getting the travel document within this year.
The CS was accompanied by the Makueni County Commissioner (CC) Duncan Darusi among other senior government officials from the Ministry of Labour.
