Cristiano Ronaldo gets record 400 million followers on IG

Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portugal and Manchester United striker, is the first person to get over 400 million followers on Instagram.

Ronaldo who recently celebrated his 37 birthday, nearly doubled his followers of 237 million from last year September.

While sharing a picture of him and his wife Georgina Rodriguez, Ronaldo thanked his fans for the birthday wishes messages.

“Life is a roller coaster. Hard work, high speed, urgent goals, demanding expectations… But in the end, it all comes down to family, love, honesty, friendship, values that make it all worth it. Thanks for all the messages! 37 and counting!”

Despite following just 501 people, Ronaldo has averaged over 10 million likes for each of his posts.

The former Real Madrid player has published 3,242 posts and his huge following surpasses his longtime rival Lionel Messi who has 306 million followers.

Despite the successes off the pitch, the former Real Madrid and Juventus star has appeared to struggle on it of late. He missed a penalty and failed to help his side reach the FA Cup fifth round, as Manchester United suffered defeat to Middlesbrough on penalties at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese icon will be focused on trying to help his struggling side secure a place in the top four of the Premier League by the end of the season and go all the way in the Champions League.

Ronaldo has been firmly in the spotlight since returning to United from Juventus last summer and has scored 14 goals in 24 appearances for the club so far this season.
