Aziz Damani cruised past Ceylon Lions by 97 runs to clinch the fourth straight Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) Super Cup on Saturday in Lugogo.

The game was a curtain riser for the new 50-over league season that tees off this Sunday for the first time since 2019 when the COVID-19 pandemic put a halt on cricket activities.

The one sided Super Cup affair pitted together 2019 Division One Winners Aziz Damani and Division II champions Ceylon Lions.

Damani won the toss and elected to bat first before Kenneth Waiswa inspired the pre-game favorites to a 191 with an unbeaten 62-run off 30 balls. He had nine boundaries (four 4s and five 6s) to be named the eventual man of the match.

Simon Sesazi managed 41 runs from 28 balls before he was caught by Ivan Baidhu while Riazat Ali Shah and Roger Mukasa posted 32 and 35 runs respectively.

Ceylon Lions’ chase was led by Shazahd Kamal who picked up 26 runs off 34 balls with two boundaries (two 4s).

Ceylon Lions’ Ruwan Jayaratne and Falak Shah had 17 runs each while Steven Wabwose and Hasith Dilhara had nine runs apiece as Eddie Agaba collected eight in a loosing effort.

The Men’s 50 Over Division One League gets underway today with Wanderers taking on SKLPS in Entebbe while Nyakasura and Damani Development II face off at Lugogo in second division match.
