Com-Cruz Becomes one of the few Liberian Musicians to Bag A Master Degree

In Liberia, There is a perception that musicians are people who throw away their copybook and pick up the microphone because they have hit the full whack of their career or the system cannot handle their ripped-up jeans, tattoos, and dreadlocks/blonde hair persona—this perception has plagued music lovers since the dawn of Liberia’s music industry.

Nonetheless, it appears that the narrative is changing by the day, as few others have decided to beat the odds and carve a niche In the academic realm for themselves.

Like Tan-Tan Boakia, Comlan Wesseh alias Com Cruz has proven that he is not only a master of his craft but also a scholar par excellence as he becomes the youngest Liberian musician to obtain a Master’s Degree. The musician, who earned his Master of Arts in Communication from the Queens University Of Charlotte, tends to harness his career to promote Liberia’s music, arts, and culture, as well as being very instrumental in inspiring other talents within the music sphere.

Known for his wavy flow and captivating slow-tempo music, Com-Cruz has worked with a couple of artists that have helped secure a spot. Com-Cruz was introduced into the music industry with his spanking “ Eiffel Tower ” banger under the Wavey Lynk duo, which managed to bulldoze the ears of a few music lovers. Fast forward, he later unleashed his sophomore tone, tagged “To The Back,” offering a lot more than just catchiness that had many musical pundits classifying the vibes and bounce in the tune as being capable of grabbing one’s attention firsthand. Since then, Cruz has been bombarding the industry with numerous songs, including—Gaza Boyz ft Nuchie Meek and Alltime Willie, Killay ft. Pious and 360 ft. J Slught. Like any other budding artist, Com-Cruz’s rise in showbiz continues to soar, deeming his unique lyrical writing abilities and catchy phrases.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me about Cruz music is that it falls out of any box you place it in— spanning across Drill, HipCo, Trap, Afrobeats, and beyond! Com-Cruz is on a mission, and his Mission is simple; to take Koloquia to the mainstream and bring the hood and marginalized talents to the spotlight.
