Coaches not the problem of Black Stars – Mas-Ud Didi Dramani

Former Black Stars assistant coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani believes that coaching changes are not the solution to the teams struggles over the past five years.Instead, he argues that the right structures need to be established to help the team reclaim its glory.Since we change coaches and the problem persists, I feel Otto Addo should be given more time because it’s not about changing coaches. It has to do with the right structures and institutions, he told Kumasi-based Akoma FM.Under the leadership of Kurt Okraku at the Ghana Football Association, five coaches have taken charge of the senior mens national team, including two tenures for Otto Addo.Kwesi Appiah was in charge when Okraku took over, but his contract was not renewed upon its expiration. C.K. Akonnor was then appointed but was later dismissed.Milovan Rajevac succeeded Akonnor and led the team to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, only to be fired after a disappointing group-stage exit in Cameroon.Otto Addo took over and successfully qualified the team for the 2022 World Cup, but stepped away following another group-stage exit in Qatar.Chris Hughton was appointed next but was also axed after overseeing a disappointing collapse that led to another group-stage exit at the 2023 AFCON in Cte d’Ivoire.Otto Addo returned for a second tenure in March 2023 but is struggling to build a competitive squad. Ghana now finds itself on the verge of failing to qualify for the AFCON for the first time in 20 years.
