Chiefs’ new left-back search continues: More targets identified!

Chiefs’ new left-back search continues as more targets are identified according to iDiski Times. Kaizer Chiefs are actively pursuing Stellenbosch FC’s left-back Fawaaz Basadien as they gear up for the upcoming season. This isn’t the first time Chiefs have shown interest in Basadien, having previously targeted him in December 2023. Despite their efforts then, Basadien opted to renew his contract with Stellenbosch FC. Committing to the Cape Winelands side on a long term deal.

With the departure of several key players, including Sfiso Hlanti, Kaizer Chiefs find themselves in need of reinforcements, particularly in the left-back position. Currently, Happy Mashiane and Edmilson Dove are the primary options on the left side. But Chiefs are keen to strengthen their squad depth, potentially securing two new left-backs for the upcoming season.

Chiefs’ Inquiry and Stellenbosch’s response

Recent reports confirm that Kaizer Chiefs have approached Stellenbosch to inquire about Basadien’s availability. However, they have been informed that the player is not for sale. Stellenbosch FC, preparing for a demanding season across five competitions, including the CAF Confederation Cup, are determined to retain their key players for the upcoming campaign.

Chiefs’ new left-back targets identified

In their quest to replace Hlanti, Kaizer Chiefs have identified two top targets for the left-back position. The arrival of the new technical team under coach Nabi has intensified their search for defensive reinforcements. Among the targets, Rushwin Dortley from Cape Town Spurs stands out as a long-term prospect. Dortley’s versatility across various defensive positions has impressed Chiefs’ scouts. Who believes he can significantly bolster their defensive setup.

Addressing the swirling transfer rumours, Cape Town Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou commented on Rushwin Dortley’s future. Hinting at significant interest in the player without divulging specifics: “There’s a lot of interest in the player, we will see what happens. We will never disclose which teams are interested. But Kaizer Chiefs, yeah, they were interested about two years ago, I’m not sure what happened.”

Anderson Cruz: Another was a strong contender

Another prominent candidate for Kaizer Chiefs’ left-back position was Anderson Cruz from Petro de Luanda. Cruz’s ability to contribute effectively both defensively and offensively has garnered attention. Particularly after his stellar performances in domestic competitions. With experience playing in Portugal, Spain, and Bolivia, Cruz brings valuable international experience that could have proved pivotal for Chiefs.

Despite initial interest in Anderson Cruz, Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly agreed to terms with Orlando Pirates for Bongani Sam, signalling a shift in their left-back pursuit. As Chiefs continue to refine their squad ahead of the 2024/25 season, securing their preferred left-back remains a top priority in their quest for domestic and continental success.
