‘Change club or you won’t get selected’ – Broos’ message to Bafana star
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has explained why he left out Al Ahly star Percy Tau in his squad.
The 72-year-old Belgian mentor announced his 23-man squad on Thursday which will do battle in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next week.
Tau, who has been with the Red Devils for three years, has hardly played in the past 12 months. His lack of game time has affected his form which was evident during the 2023 Afcon. The ex-Mamelodi Sundowns man scored one goal in the tournament but fans criticized his performance.
Speaking to the media, Broos explained why Percy Tau was excluded from the Bafana team.
“You know Percy Tau doesn’t play anymore. He’s always on the bench,” said the Bafana coach as per GOAL.
“I said two months ago the environment at Al Ahly is not positive. They wanted to sell him. Then you have the critics on social media who were not happy with his performances at Bafana. “
Tau not part of Bafana and Broos plans for now
“I don’t think it’s the right moment for Percy to be with Bafana but it doesn’t mean he will never come back again,” Broos added.
“I hope he can change clubs. I hope he can be in a more positive environment and produce the performances we expect from him.”
Several weeks ago, Broos said that Tau asked not be be called to the Bafana squads until he felt he was ready to play. Al Ahly have dominated African football over the years and next year, the Red Devils will once again participate in the Club World Cup.
Where should Percy Tau move to?
