Cape Talk’s Lester Kiewit spoke to City of Cape Town Ward 77 Councillor Francine Higham to confirm what had transpired.

According to Higham, Emergency Services responded immediately and found that nine people were injured.

Similar accident

A similar accident happened this time last year and six people were hospitalised after a seafood delivery truck lost control on the same road.

After the 2023 accident, measures were put into place to try and prevent future accidents.

These included reducing the speed limit to 50km/h and placing signage across the entire length of the road notorious for accidents.

Higham says they continue to work with traffic network management to try and find ways to improve safety.

She says we need to look at the roadworthiness of these large vehicles and driver competency.
