Legendary singer-songwriter Nina Simone was a powerful force in the jazz, blues, and classical genres. To honour the late Grammy nominee’s legacy, American record label Verve Records has released Feeling Good: Her Greatest Hits & Remixes, a two-side CD with some of her biggest hits and remixes.
The music video for My Baby Just Cares For Me, remixed by HONNE, shows off the beauty of Cape Town on a hot summer’s day.
WHO WAS NINA SIMONE?
Nina Simone has been recognised as one of the world’s most talented musicians. She kicked off her musical career at the tender age of four. Although she spent months preparing for an audition at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, her application to study was denied.
Simone went on to become a bright light in the jazz, classical and blues genres. Some of her most popular songs include I Put A Spell On You, Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, Feeling Good and Ain’t Got No, I Got Life.
Her single Mississippi Goddam, released in 1964, has been labelled an “iconic protest song”, and spoke to the American Civil Rights Movement.
She passed away on 21 April 2003.
