Bulls CEO speaks out as concern grows over Nkosi’s safety

Bulls CEO Edgar Rathbone says there is growing concern within the franchise over the mysterious disappearance of wing Sbu Nkosi.

In a worrying report that has appeared on Netwerk24, Nkosi has apparently not turned up for any team activities at the Bulls since 14 November, while efforts to contact him have been in vain.

But in another twist, his mother and extended family have also reportedly not heard from him either and he has now been reported missing to the police.

When ask about Nkosi’s disappearance during a pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Bulls director of rugby Jake White declined to comment.

“The less I say atthe moment, the better.”

Speaking in his capacity as Bulls CEO, Rathbone was more transparent when he was quizzed about the Nkosi situation.

“All I can say is that we hope Sbu is at least keeping safe despite his seclusion,” Edgar Rathbone, told News24‘s Heinz Schenk on Saturday morning.

“We’ve been attempting tirelessly to make contact with him, but these efforts have been in vain to date. Everybody is really concerned.”

The 26-year-old Nkosi traded the Sharks for the Bulls in September of this year, after spending seven years at the Durban franchise.

Nkosi made his Test debut for the Springboks against England in 2018 and has earned 16 Test caps and scored nine tries to date.

He has struggled for form in recently moths and was subsequently been overlooked for national selection. But his move to the Bulls coincided with a return to good form, which had earned him a recall to the Springboks for the end of year tour of Europe.

But Nkosi then sustained an injury in the Bulls’ URC clash against the Sharks on 30 October which prevented him from immediately flying out with the Bok squad.
